Phnom Penh: On May 31, 2023, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY) celebrated World Social Work Day 2023 with the theme: “Respecting Diversity Through Joint Social Action”. The World Social Work Day aims to celebrate and share the achievements of the social work sector in providing social servic
es, encouraging social development, and responding to the actual needs of vulnerable citizens, including children at risk of violence, neglect, abuse, and children with disabilities.
H.E Nim Thoth, Permanent Secretary of State, on behalf of H.E Vong Sauth, the Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, stated that Cambodia needs a strong and capable social services workforce (SSWF) to contribute to social development and community development. He highlighted that SSWF has been important in supporting and promoting the well-being of children, families, victims, and vulnerable groups.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Hong Reaksmey, Country Director of Save the Children International (SCI), emphasized the contribution of Family Care First (FCF) Project, focusing on the project’s support to strengthen Social Service Workforce (SSWF) capacity in close collaboration with the National Institute of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, and UNICEF. This coalition of partners has developed the training curriculum and modules and is now conducting national-level Training of Trainer (ToT) and rolling out the training to social workers at sub-national levels. Mr. Reaksmey emphasized that FCF network members are here to support the government to ensure that the best possible social work services and support to vulnerable children and families are provided.
