Six-year-old, *Sreykeo was previously living with her parents and her five-year-old sister. Both parents were working hard but were still living in poverty. Unfortunately, both parents became involved with drugs which created much tension within the household. Devastatingly Sreykeo’s father killed his wife, Sreykeo’s mother, in April 2021. Her father was arrested shortly afterward, and later, he committed suicide.
Following this tragedy, Sreykeo and her sister were left alone. However, local authorities quickly responded to this crisis. They immediately referred the children to Holt for assessment. After the assessment was completed in close collaboration with relevant local authorities, including WCCC, CCWC, OSVY, and DoSVY, Holt placed the children with their grandparents.

Sreykeo initially had anemia when she arrived at her grandparents, but she is recovering, and receives regular health support. Moreover, during the COVID-19 outbreak, her grandmothers’ income has reduced; she only makes the equivalent of $2.50 per day. Hence, Holt and local authorities are providing food and other material assistance for the children and their grandparents.

In order to support the children’s wellbeing, Holt and the local authorities continue to work together to provide counseling support to overcome this tragedy, with regular engagement (in person and over the phone) to check in on their wellbeing. Ongoing support will be provided to ensure appropriate long-term solutions for these children.
