Early intervention and prevention services refer to the provision of early support to children and their caregivers to prevent problems from occurring, or address them early to prevent them from worsening. They are often referred to as secondary services and are targeted towards children and families who are at risk of poor outcomes, including children who have developmental delays and disabilities.

Disability Services

A wide range of services and supports designed to ensure the rights of persons with disabilities are protected and fulfilled, promote inclusion in community and society, and improve their quality of life. Services can be disability-specific or inclusive, and can be provided to individuals and their caregivers. To protect children with disabilities’ equal right to family life, community-based disability services are required to enable children to live with their families or in family-based care where alternative care is required. These services are critical to addressing the issue of overrepresentation of children with disabilities in residential care settings.
