A professional association, also known as a professional body, is a group established to further the interests of a particular industry or profession. They are often established to fulfil a peak body role. Professional associations are typically membership based and are responsible for setting standards and establishing codes of conduct for the profession. They may fulfil a credentialing or accrediting role in some cases. Associations for social workers are an example of a professional body relevant to children’s care.
